The Importance of Antioxidants for the Skin

Antioxidants sound like such a buzz-word right now. You see it everywhere, but here’s the deal. Scientists and Medical Doctors have years of well-founded research on antioxidants and the skin. What are antioxidants? Antioxidants fight the free radicals that harm the cells, causing damage and premature aging. In other words, antioxidants skin care products help in preventing future damages and repairing past damages in the cells. Repair you say? Yep, repair damage. I have seen great results in my clients when they use a very good Antioxidant product paired with a quality SPF.
Vitamins E, A, and C, zinc and selenium are just some of the nutrients found in the properties of antioxidants. The use of antioxidant skin care products will help the body get the nutrients it needs, excluding the conventional way, which is to eat foods rich in antioxidants. All of these are important in keeping a healthy skin. Antioxidant skin care helps in achieving a youthful skin, and maintaining it.
Here is a list of foods containing antioxidants, so that you can get your grub on in a beautiful way:

As far as product goes, I have three absolute favorites available at Holistica. Layering the Rhonda Allison C-Peptide Serum underneath the Rhonda Allison Daytime Defense SPF 30 provides serious protection from brown spots, cell damage and an increase in aging. If you are looking for more of a “plumping” wrinkle-lessening approach, my all time favorite product in the Rhonda Allison line is the Antioxidant Complex Serum. Once again layer this underneath the Rhonda Allison Daytime Defense SPF 30. This is a powerful serum with a very full spectrum list of ingredients including those that we listed above as well as my best friend, Hyaluronic Acid. LOVE.

The Dr. Hauschka Quince Day Cream has been my go-to moisturizer for about 13 years. The quince fruit has one of the highest antioxidant contents of any fruit found on earth. This is carefully extracted, along with the seeds, and when they combine this with their Biodynamically grown Shea Butter, you have a natural, food based, powerful and nurturing antioxidant complex. This is good for everyone and a summertime favorite. Men also adore this product.

Until then, Cheers!
